Job Opportunity at WRP

WRP is hiring!

Liver Lost and Found Coordinator:
This staff member will provide a valuable service to our members - the opportunity to report any livers that may have escaped or been left on a barstool somewhere. Sometimes those pesky suckers want out, but we whinorhinos need them, like it or not! The Lost and Found Coordinator will run a hotline which whinorhinos can use to report sightings and missing livers. This position also requires some field work in liver retrieval.

Interested parties should apply in person to WRP headquarters.

Jon's in Belfast!

I was just walking past city hall not an hour ago with my M&S dinner in my bag for life. I saw the news van setting up but I didn't know my beloved Jon Snow would be there! I would have stayed and gotten an autograph or taken pictures of his socks or something.

I've had to resort to taking pictures off my tv...
Ah well. He did a very frank interview with Gerry Adams as well. Look at that serious face!

'Ole Gerry came across pretty well I think, Jon asked him some tough questions about when it's ok to exercise "democratic violence" and when it's not. His answers sounded pretty genuine to me and does make me feel a bit better that there won't be any back sliding here in Northern Ireland. (Full interview on channel 4 website)

So here's to the "process" ongoing. There are kids and young adults now who have no real memories of the bad old days and that's the way it must stay.

Hoods in the 'hood

Picture it, North Belfast, 4:30 am...all the little whinorhinos are tucked up safely in bed dreaming of whiskey sours and dragonflies when all of a sudden...

BOOM!
Over to the window we scurry to see smoke & flames, then flashing lights and firemen out in the street. Another neighbour's car has met with a sad end just around our corner.
Are the kids practicing for summer or is this something else? Perhaps they really really hate when someone parks in this spot? I am getting so pissed off I will probably be arrested for punching the next person I see spitting on the street, as I am now convinced that all those no-good-niks on the corner are up to things like this:

Nice right? It's still sitting there 2 days later. The first victim of auto-cide in the neighbourhood was at least promptly removed. Here's an even more gorey shot of the carnage (ha ha pun intended.)

This here Belfast is a real classy place, eh?

WRP goes antiquing

My find at this weekend's Antique and Art Fair at Belfast Castle... a fabulous brass coal shuttle! This was sorely needed 'cause the big plastic bag of coal sitting in my living room was really ruining my aesthetic.
I'm quite pleased with myself (no one ask me how much I paid, I don't want to find out I didn't get the bargain that the seller congratulated me on. I mean seriously, if the seller keeps telling you what a smart buy you've made, you start to wonder why they are so enthused with the sale.)

Anyway, I like it - I skipped all the way home with it looped over my arm like a very awkward purse, slowed only by Colleen who kept stopping to help the elderly.

I really posted it so Babe could tell me it was loverly - what do you think, Babe?
